Cob Shed and Oven, and our Compost Toilet on Breakfast TV
Sharon, head gardener at City Farmer, gives Tasha a tour of the Vancouver Compost Demonstration Garden. They look at the cob shed and oven, compost toilet, and bird baths.
Sharon is a passionate birder and even brings her dog’s hair for the chickadees who build their nests with it. Maria places colourful flower petals in the bird baths every morning for our pleasure as much as theirs.
Breakfast TV Sees What is Growing at City Farmer
Sharon shows Tasha of Breakfast TV our garden and what is growing in July – garlic, chives, lettuce, carrots, gooseberries, kale, and zucchini. Food from the garden goes to a hospice downtown, to volunteers and to visitors who taste it raw as they walk about.
In Vancouver’s mild climate, City Farmer staff are out in the garden all twelve months of the year. It rarely snows and freeze-ups are brief. During the winter months, we have veggies in the ground, a cold frame full of greens, and purple broccoli sprouting in early April.
