CARE is seeking an Urban Agriculture Expert for a proposed, USAID – funded, large-scale, multi-year Food and Enterprise Development Program to be based in Monrovia, Liberia. The Food and Enterprise Development (FED) Program will be implemented to achieve the following objectives: 1.) increase agricultural productivity and profitability; 2.) stimulate private enterprise growth and investment; and 3.) build local technical and managerial human resources to sustain and expand accomplishments achieved under objectives one and two.

The selected candidate will be primarily responsible for designing and overseeing the implementation of an innovative and sustainable peri-urban agriculture project component in the Monrovia vicinity. This component is geared toward improving interest among the youth in agriculture as a career.

Key Responsibilities include:

- Providing overall leadership and guidance in regards to the peri-urban agriculture component;
- Contributing technical expertise in all aspects of the peri-urban agriculture component, leading to an anticipated outcome of 500 youth trained and productivity engaged in peri-urban agriculture;
- Design and lead technical training sessions for potential stakeholders;
- Coordinate with other project staff, consultants, and partners at all levels and assist with the development of project work, reports and strategic plans;
- Coordinate and integrate activities with other organizations and the private sector who are currently operating in or have the potential to contribute to this space.
- Ensure that urban and peri-urban agriculture value chain components are developed and supported in ways which ensure long term sustainability after the project ends;
- Lead and technically supervise designated special projects and pilots
- Ensure the timely and quality completion of all designated deliverables.

Qualifications:

- 7-10 years of senior-level experience in implementing agriculture intensification and agricultural business development projects;
- Previous work experience on dedicated urban and peri-urban agriculture preferred;
- Previous work experience in West Africa/Liberia preferred;
- Strong team leadership, managerial and interpersonal skills;
- Previous experience on USAID-funded projects preferred;
- Ability to establish priorities in a time-sensitive environment, and meet deadlines with strong attention to detail and quality;
- Fluency in English required.
