Green Gate Farms – Organic Urban Farm in Austin Texas
CSA farm feeds 100 families.

Erin’s family has farmed and ranched in Texas for six generations and Skip’s boyhood was spent on a magnificent farm in Pennsylvania that got its start in the 1700s.
These family ties, and our work in public health, is what led us to create Green Gate Farms. While Skip wrote speeches and materials for Centers for Disease Control, Erin directed communications at the American Cancer Society. Through this work we became keenly aware that America’s factory food system is at the heart of a myriad of health and environmental issues.
Our farm is designed to connect people to agriculture in a new way. Children — as well as developers and city planners — need to see that intown, sustainable farms are possible. And that everyone should have a place where they can savor nature and appreciate how their food grows.
We’ve dedicated our farm to “Cultivating Healthy Food and Communities,” which is why we maintain an open-door policy for volunteers and community-inspired events and workshops. Click here for a partial list of the activities we’ve hosted to date.
Green Gate Farms is located in Austin’s historic greenbelt, on the east side of town near Farmer to Market Road (FM) 969. You can see our yellow 1902 farmhouse — the Bergstrom homestead built by Swedes who farmed this fertile area from the 1880s – 1950s — from Decker Lane.
At our farm stand, located where we live, you’ll find organic veggies, pastured meat, truly free-range eggs and local crafts on Fridays (12-6) and Saturdays (10-2).

What great videos. Well done to Skip and Erin for continuing with this type of farming and promoting it whenever possible. I look forward to visiting one day.
