Edible Wall
One one side of the Weingart Center in Downtown L.A. is a large edible wall. It is a stainless steel structure that contains small containers full of edible plants. Meg Glasser is the West Coast Regional Manager for Urban Farming, a non-profit that seeks to end hunger by planting food. There are four edible walls in Los Angeles. The food harvested from the Weingart Center, which services LA’s homeless on Skid Row, is used by the chef at the Weingart Cafe, a free food center for residents.

Farmcycle – biking and farming across Europe
By Stephen Switzer
We are 3 Brooklyn, NY folks riding our bikes across Europe for 3,000 miles and working on 30 organic farms (both urban and rural) to gather information for a book about bike touring/farming. We will visit half urban farms and half rural farms (out of 30 total).
So far, we’ve identified a few specific urban farms we will visit:
Can Masdeau – community and urban sustainability farm (Barcelona, Spain).
ufaFabrik – Intentional community and urban farm (Berlin, Germany).
Allotment Gardens in Copenhagen and Stockholm – assorted sites.
We’re really interested in the allotment system in Europe and how it can be translated to New York City. We plan on visiting 10 countries, including Scandinavia, starting in June in Barcelona.
