Triscuit Declares Home Farming Day
Excerpt from press release April 12, 2011:
Triscuit and non-profit Urban Farming will unveil plans for 65 community-based home farms in 20 U.S. cities in 2011, including five home farms to be grown at low-income housing subsidiaries. These farms, located in urban areas, will provide local residents with greater access to more nutritious and healthier foods, consistent with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) mission of creating more sustainable and diverse communities.
“Home Farming Day” Celebrations: New York City, Los Angeles and Tampa
Urban Farming and Triscuit are hosting the “Plant-a-thon” event at Madison Square Park in New York City to celebrate the first-ever “Home Farming Day” and underscore the message that everyone, everywhere can grow a home farm. Aspiring home farmers will have the opportunity to plant fresh chives and learn tips and techniques by expert “The Gardener Guy” Paul James, host of “Gardening by the Yard.” Visitors can join the “Home Farming” movement online at the event and mail plantable postcards with herb seeds to 2 friends.
“We want to inspire Americans across the country to join the ‘Home Farming’ movement,” said Jim Low, senior director of marketing for Triscuit at Kraft Foods. “From backyards to balconies, or in community plots, everyone can become involved in home farming and discover the simple joy of growing their own food.”
