Over the past several years she has been instrumental in creating the Canmore Community Garden which now provides plots for over 100 gardeners in the city and area. ‘Garden to Table’ project in San Jose

Vacant parcels in San Jose, CA, cost millions of dollars each year to maintain in an area with some of the best weather on the planet.

A project managed by CommUniverCity San Jose, an organization that brings together the collective power of student service learners and faculty from San Jose State University, residents of the university’s neighboring communities, and resources from the city of San Jose.

Excerpts:

Garden to Table accomplishes this goal by working with community members to harvest the community’s neglected fruit trees, in addition to building gardens for families who do not have their own gardening space, and sharing the excess produce with those in need. We also provide a variety of supplemental workshops on nutrition and gardening to teach people the value and relative ease of eating healthy. Finally, we have been working for about 2 years on our “white whale,” so to speak, to obtain the rights to build a community garden that will initially serve 15 families and two elementary schools.
