Taiwan: Three ways you can be a farmer right in Taipei

Located in Shilin District, Zhi Shan Ming Zhe Farm is a quiet hideout with a view of Taipei 101.

Part of the farm is open to the denizens of Taipei, who can rent a rice paddy, harvest it in August, and then dry and husk their own rice.

The farm produces the only certified organic rice in Yangmingshan, cultivated with pains taken to avoid disrupting the natural ecosystem.

Because of the planting methods used, the farm is also a firefly preserve, becoming a magical fairyland at night from April through May.
