MALAKAS! is a 40-minute documentary film that tells the story of how three barangays (villages) in Cagayan de Oro City in the Philippines were engaged in a community participatory process to design their own systems of organic waste management in support of local food production.

The film and the project it documents were made possible by a Graduate Research and Design ECOPOLIS Award from Canada’s International Development Research Centre. It was written, directed and produced by Jeannette Tramhel in partnership with Manila filmmaker, Mario AV Guzman. The video is available in English only.

MALAKAS! est un documentaire de 40 minutes qui raconte comment, en misant sur la participation communautaire, trois barangays (villages) de Cagayan de Oro City, aux Philippines, se sont dotés de leur propres systèmes de gestion des déchets organiques pour soutenir la production alimentaire locale.

Le film, de même que le projet dont il rend compte, ont vu le jour grâce à une bourse de recherche et de design ÉCOPOLIS pour les cycles supérieurs du Centre de recherches pour le développement international, organisme canadien. Ce film a été écrit, réalisé et produit par Jeannette Tramhel, en collaboration avec le cinéaste manillais Mario AV Guzman. Cette vidéo existe uniquement en version anglaise.
