The Garden That You Are explores that culture through the lives and stories of eight gardeners who all live within a square mile of each in other, in British Columbia’s bucolic and culturally diverse Slocan Valley. Some garden for a living, others garden as a passion, but all have fascinating personal histories and gardening lives.

Eliza Gooderham and Peter Slevin met in the tiny town of Ucluelet, on Vancouver Island’s west coast, in 1994. They were both working as itinerant tree planters at the time, thinking about their lives, wondering where they were headed. Eliza was twenty-two years old, Pete twenty-seven. Seven years later the couple bought the ten-acre property in the Slocan Valley that has become their home and their livelihood.
